Been too long since my last story, sorry ;p

13 mei 2018 - Laguna Beach, California, Verenigde Staten

Dear readers,

I have been in SoCal (Southern California) for... yeah how long actually? The time goes so fast that I forget since how long I live here! 7 weeks, that is how long I am already here. It sounds short, but it feels like I am really at home in this state. California is so so beautiful, the people in general are very friendly and laid back, the food (especially Mexican food) is good and I love my host family! I couldn't pick out a better place to spend my second year ;) I feel the happiest I have ever been in my life!

So where to start....

For my birthday I went to Las Vegas for the weekend with Patricia, a new au pair friend I met here. We rented a car and I drove all the way to Vegas (the trip really wasn't bad, it took us around 5,5 hours to get there). On our way we saw the beautiful desert that already started in California. Amazing how beautiful and diverse America is! When we arrived at our hostel (Hostel Cat is the name and the cool this is that the hostel is used to be the chapel in the Hangover Part 1 movie!) around 1 am we right away went to Old Las Vegas and partied there in a nice club. Old Las Vegas was already crazy because of all the lights, casinos and street artists. After we slept in a bit the next day, we went to a very fancy pool party at Hotel Mandalay Bay. This pool party was the best  party of all I think. After the party, we strolled around The Strip (The Strip in one word: CRAZY) and after we went for a nice dinner and made ourselves ready for the next party at TAO. The nightclub TAO is located in the Venetian, so it was really nice to see that hotel from the inside! After this party we were so tired so we slept right away when we came back to the hostel. The next morning we had to leave the hostel at 11 am, so we took the car to Prim and shopped there a bit in the outlet. I bought an amazing Kate Spade cross body bag and a wallet (had to treat myself a bit because the next day would be my birthday ;)) and a nice sweatshirt. After shopping we ate some delicious Greek food and drove home to California again. This weekend was really amazing, fun and crazy! I am really glad I went to Las Vegas, because there is no city like Vegas!

The weekend after Las Vegas, I went with 3 friends to Los Angeles. We drove there, because it is only 1,5-2 hours. We booked an Airbnb close to Santa Monica Beach, so the area where we stayed was really nice. The first night we went to a Hookah bar (everything already closed at 2 am unfortunately and only the Hookah bar was open) and relaxed there a bit. After we all half fell asleep at 3, we took the Uber back to the Airbnb. The next day, we went to Santa Monica beach and to the pier. Amazing and fun to see the town that is world famous ;) But of course because of that, it looked like half of the planet went to Santa Monica that day. After the sun was down, we went for some nice food and made ourselves ready for the next party (we bought tickets to go to Avalon in Hollywood)! I got a super sweet surprise from my friends. They bought me a delicious chocolate mouse cake from Whole Foods and sang for me (because the week before I turned 22)! Of course a loved the chocolate mousse so much, that I ate way too much of it ;p The next morning, after our nice party in Avalon, we went to a Thai New Years festival. This festival was in Hollywood, so from our car we saw the Hollywood sign. The Thai festival was very busy and it was so hot, that we decided to go after 2-3 hours. We took an Uber to the Walk of Fame to spent the rest of our day there and in a nice laid back bar. In the evening it was time to go to Laguna Beach again, because we all had to work again the next morning.

These weeks with my host kids were very nice. Rylan and Quinn both are really used to me now and love to play with me and to sneak into my room to say hi when I am off. They are the cutest kids ever and we also get a lot of attention when we are walking outside ;). What I love to do with the girls during the week is going to the beach in Laguna, visiting the mall, going to the library, the park and the dog park (where we can pat a lot of sweet dogs). Because it is always such nice weather in SoCal, I get a lot of energy during the day (I love the sun, this wakes me up) and my mood is always good. I also created a nice tan a I bet my friends and family are jealous on me because of that ;p ! I am trying to go to the beach pretty often in my weekends (when I don't have other things to do), because Laguna Beach has great beaches. I still can't believe I really live here! Look at my pictures to see all the beautiful spots I already have been to ;) Of course the towns next to Laguna Beach (Newport beach, Huntington beach, Dana point and San Clemente) also have great beaches, so I am trying to go there too from time to time. When I go out to party with friends, we usually go to San Clemente (there are a few nice bars) but I hope to explore more around here so I can go to different places too. I already did a lot in these 7 weeks, but I am excited to explore more and to share my experiences with you guys!
